Contact lenses are a great alternative to wearing glasses and many patients prefer contacts over eyeglasses. With today’s technology, we can customize a unique solution for each person. It is important to remember that contact lenses are prescription medical devices. The selection of a personalized contact lens prescription needs to be based on your vision needs, ocular anatomy, overall eye health, lifestyle, age and comfort.
Dr. Stella specializes in complicated or difficult contact lens fitting. We employ the latest advances in contact lens technology, to get you seeing clearly and comfortably without dependence on glasses. She has extensive experience fitting lenses on patients with complicated prescriptions and special eye issues like dry eyes, irregular corneas and keratoconus.
Contact lenses are a medical device and are certainly not one-size-fits-all. At Star Vision Eye Care, we make sure that your contact lenses are the best available for your vision and eye health. After your contact lens fitting, you will be asked to return for a contact lens fit evaluation visit, typically after one week. There is no charge for this visit, we just want to ensure the lenses have settled down to an optimal fit on the eyes.
The contact lens market is robust and ever-changing, with new lens lens materials and products making their debut frequently. Fairly new to the market are silicone hydrogel lenses. These lens material allows more oxygen to the eyes than older generation lens material categories. This allows some patients a second and/or longer chance to remain in soft contact lenses than previously possible. These patients would have dropped out of contact lenses in previous times due to eye complications and discomfort, borne out of dryness and lack of adequate oxygen to the corneal tissues. Silicone hydrogel lenses address some of these issues today.
We also fit RGP lenses (aka hard contacts). These lenses provide superior vision in most cases than soft contact lenses. Comfort-wise, their adjustment period is longer, but patients usually love them after this initial period of adjustment, and become completely unwilling to switch to soft contacts lenses.
We fit lenses from all the major manufacturers including, but not limited to:
